Facebook has done some major revamps to how they're handling advertising these days. One of the new 'tools' they've introduced is the "Facebook Reach Generator", or simply Facebook Reach. If you'vee got a hankering for social media advertising, you'll probably want to give this post a read.
You're probably asking yourself "What exactly is Facebook Reach Generator?" Simply put, it's "a new premium advertising solution for large clients seeking to reach a higher percentage of fans via sponsored activity." as mentioned by insidefacebook.com.
To expand on that, it's an alternative to the standard way Facebook and most other websites handle advertisements where you pay per-click or per-impression or what have you.
The Reach Generator instead is considered a premium service where rather than buying a usual slot for advertising; you now buy a 'storie', wich specifically targets fans of your facebook page. This ideally/ theoretically keeps the attention of fans of your page and plays better with the core concepts and ideas behind facebook, allowing for a virtually seamless integration for your advertisements.
Check out the video below to see it in action and get an official breakdown:
The concept isn't exactly fresh, however reportedly Ben & Jerry’s was able to use the generator to reach upwards of 98% of their page fans using this new facebook advertising method according to insidefacebook.com.
While the numbers are certainly impressive, this makes me a little nervous for a few reasons:
First, it kind of admits that 'traditional' advertising on Facebook isn't working that well any more even with their innovative targeting options and algorithms.
Second, once users eventually learn to block this out, either mentally or with browser plug-ins, there's not an incredible amount of wiggle room left on how to continue an advertisement barrage on facebook.
On the other hand, the generator is a lot more engaging on a personal level wich caters better to Facebook's prime directive, so it's unlikely that users will weed them out very quickly as they have already 'liked' the content that's being delivered to them.
It's difficult to see the future, but for now, the Facebook Reach tool looks to be very promising.
Facebook has had a ton of different shake ups in how it handles advertising over the years. From starting out with none, to now supporting mobile advertisements and their new reach generator options. The future of facebook and and facebook reach is looking to be a bright one.
